On Sunday, March 2nd on the eve of the Post's 102nd Anniversary, Post Leadership and members of the community participated in a ceremony formally recognizing the Post's new namesake, 1LT Mathew Fazzari of Walla Walla, WA.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 992 in Walla Walla, Washington, stands as a beacon of service, camaraderie, and dedication to our nation’s veterans. Beyond its mission, the post proudly bears the name of a local hero, Walter Grant Farmer, whose sacrifice and legacy continue to inspire our community.
The poppy has long been a powerful symbol of remembrance for those who have served and sacrificed in military conflicts. Its significance is deeply tied to World War I and the iconic poem, In Flanders Fields, written by Lt. Col. John McCrae. (See comments for poem!!) The vibrant red poppies blooming on the battlefields of Flanders became a poignant reminder of the lives lost in the pursuit of freedom.
